Hi friend!
I am 17, a senior in high school, And I’m giving myself a bedtime of 11:30 p.m.
Now, it is 11:31. So, I am writing this a little bit past my self-determined bedtime.
You may be wondering, why are you giving yourself a bedtime—something for seven-year-olds? The answer to that is rooted in a few things:
- Listen to your body
- Set deadlines for efficiency
- It just feels good (I strive to be joyous.)

Listen to your body
Have you felt the sleep deprivation that can be associated with staying up pretty late to do schoolwork? That essay editing before the due date making you approach 12:30 AM?
I have totally felt that too. But, then I felt tired during the day which probably was not good for my mental, physical, social, you get the point, health.
I’ll admit, I have heard the phrase “listen to your body” and drugged it off a bit because it’s pretty vague. but, I’ve been learning that you should trust yourself and make your body happy if you can (eg: by sleeping well).
Set deadlines for efficiency
I bring work quickly and well up not to promote being as efficient and possible and husting 24/7, but to allow yourself a breather from working hard when it’s not the smartest.
I think that it can be totally valid for people to try using easy work to procrastinate doing the harder things. But, perhaps deadlines could help you meet that promise to yourself and cut what doesn’t really serve you.

It just feels good
Isn’t feeling good what everything is all about?
Think about waking up well rested greeted by the glimmer of morning sunshine rolling through a window. It feels great, and you can have that <33

Look at that! It’s 11:45 pm—15 minutes past my “bedtime”! but I wanted to write for you. Without my bedtime, I may have wading through a few tasks after writing this, but now I am gonna shut my computer and go to sleep.
Sending love and light,
Mer
