Hi friend!
It’s completely valid to care about others’ opinions. How can we not!? What others think of you determines your friends, opportunities, and more! They can significantly affect our lives.
BUT… something happens when you overthink about receiving judgment. You alter your behavior to fit the mold of what you think you should be. That shielded authenticity can make it difficult to importantly feel confidence, like yourself, and connect with others!
Storytime: A few weeks ago, I individually approached a guest speaker at my school with a question after his speech while most other people were departing. I wanted to give him a handshake after speaking with him, but I was nervous about whether it would be awkward – and I didn’t want the few people observing our conversation to see me fail. So, I did not give him a handshake. But then, another student approached him and shook his hand!!
So, when you find yourself hesitating to do something because of the possibility of others’ opinions, here are some affirmations that can help you push through and glow in your authenticity:
- I do not let others detract from my abundance
- I probably care much more about how they perceive me than they care about what I do
- Doing *insert challenging thing* is a win-win scenario for me. If it goes “well”, it will feel good. If not, I learn and therefore be better off after the experience
Homework:
Quick! Open your notes app or grab a piece of paper and write down an affirmation that you would use to release your fear of judgment!
Always wishing you the best,
